In order to stop the spread of COVID-19, we’re all making sacrifices. We’re working from home, spending more time away from friends and family, and avoiding large gatherings. Unfortunately for all the recent graduates, this new world also means no graduation ceremonies or parties.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t celebrate! In fact, you have every reason to celebrate. To give you the inspiration you need to mark this special occasion, here are some ways to celebrate your graduation during COVID-19!
- Recreate the Ceremony at Home: You’ve got the degree, the cap, and the gown. Why not bring the graduation ceremony to your house? Many graduates are also quarantined with family members, so you have a built in audience as well. Use your living room as a stage, set up a fun walkway to strut your stuff, and get all dressed up for the occasion. Even have someone call your name, shake your hand, and hand you your degree.
- Conference Call Your Loved Ones: One of the best parts of graduation celebrations is spending time with your loved ones. If you’re not currently quarantining with your family, it may feel especially difficult to not share this time with them. So plan a video conference to celebrate the occasion virtually! This will also allow you to include family members or friends located farther away who wouldn’t be able to attend in-person anyway. Third-party apps make this extremely easy nowadays, especially since this has turned into a main form of communication for everyone across the globe as we stay inside. Schedule a time that works with everyone (we all should be pretty open these days), and turn on the video donning your cap and gown.
- Self-Care Time: After finishing a degree, you’re bound to be tired and wound-up from the stress of exams, final papers, and making it across the finish line. The best way to unwind and relax is to indulge in some self-care rituals, which is a phenomenal way to celebrate all you’ve accomplished. Whether you’re favorites include taking a hot bath, ordering take-out from your favorite restaurant, or curling up on the couch with a book: do it! It doesn’t have to be loud and busy to be a celebration. It’s just whatever makes you feel happy and proud!
