Identifying “Spam” Jobs When Searching Online

When you’re seeking out a new career opportunity, there’s nothing as frustrating as coming across the perfect job for you only to find out it’s actually too perfect. We call these inaccurate, misleading, or fake job postings, “spam job listings.” These are the listings that  look great at first,  but turn out to be some sort of pyramid scheme, more sales oriented than is represented, or maybe even non existent.
So, how can you identify “spam” jobs when searching online? Read on learn!

Read the Job Description Carefully

The best tip we can give you for sifting through spam job listings is to read every single word of the job description. Make sure you fully understand what your daily tasks will be and what the company is looking for in the candidate. If you do so, you’ll be able to understand if it’s a full-time position versus something commission based.
And, if there’s not enough in the job description to give you a good sense of what you’re applying for, you might want to skip it altogether. Lack of clear details is usually a red flag that the opportunity isn’t a good one.

Check Out Reviews for the Company

Do some research before you take the time to apply to the position. Use programs like Glassdoor to check out what current and past employees are saying about the position and the company it comes from. Reviews will tell you a lot about management and other things that may not be expressed in the description.

Reach Out to Other Employees

If you’re comfortable with it or have an inside connection to the company, consider reaching out to other employees. You can ask them questions about what their role is like, how the company operates, and how satisfied they are with where they work.
Reaching out and asking these questions shouldn’t hurt your chances of getting a qualified job. In fact, most actual hiring managers should see this sign as you doing detailed research and homework for the job.

Be Cautious About Email Offers You Didn’t Apply For

If you receive an email from someone claiming to be a hiring manager who found your resume via another website or platform, be wary. Often the company posting these “spam job listings” also use sources like Indeed to gather contact information in bulk and  target individuals who are aggressively looking for jobs with their shady offers. Of course, if you’re not sure if an offer or outreach is safe or not, just proceed with caution and be sure to share any personal information until you’ve verified the company and opportunity are legitimate.

Signs You Need a Career Change

Deciding to pursue an online graduate business degree as a working adult and determining whether or not you want a career change are two life-changing decisions. Even if your current role is not something you enjoy, the pain of having to find a new job often discourages people from getting out there and exploring their options.
To help lessen the burden of thinking through the decision to stay or to go, we’re providing the top signs you need a career change while also discussing how earning an online master’s degree can help.

The Biggest Signs You Need a Career Change

  • Do you absolutely dread going into work every single morning? Do you especially hate the end of the weekend because it means that you’ll have to go into the office the next morning? Listen to that voice inside your head. It’s probably trying to tell you that you really don’t enjoy your current role and you need to find something else that’ll fulfill your passions.
  • Write down the list of reasons why you enjoy your job. Is it for a well-rounded amount of reasons? For example, do you like your co-workers, find your work rewarding, and can see yourself there in the next several years? If your answers look like this, then you should consider staying. If the reason for enjoying your job is simply because you get paid, that may be a sign for needing to move on.
  • Take a good long look at your mental health. Do you find yourself more often than not feeling depressed? Are you severely lacking in self-esteem? Since your job is where you spend the most time during your days, analyze if your job affects your mental health in a positive or negative way.
  • If your schedule only involves work and sleeping and you barely spend time with your loved ones or your favorite passions, then it means that your current role may be all too consuming. It’s great to find a balance in your life outside of work.
  • If you aren’t feeling challenged in your day-to-day responsibilities, then it’s time to find something that can help you grow. Remaining stagnant doesn’t lead to productivity in most cases.
  • How are your co-workers? Do you get along with them and your boss? Do they listen to your ideas respectfully and help you to better yourself? If the answer to any of these questions is no, then you might want to consider moving on.
  • Do you feel like you are being paid fairly, or do you know you could be receiving more? If the answer is the latter, then you deserve to move on and find a job that will reward you accurately.

If you connect with these above signs you need a career change, consider going back to school to complete your master’s in business to set yourself up for success at your updated job.

5 Signs It’s Time to Get an MBA

Maybe you’ve been considering pursuing an MBA degree for months, but aren’t sure if it’s the right time. Perhaps you feel you’re overqualified for your current job, but are hesitant to spend thousands of dollars and put your life on hold to get a business degree. Deciding whether to pursue an MBA is a difficult decision, but at a certain point, you must decide: Should I take the risk and go back to school, or continue to be unhappy in my current situation? To help you out with your decision, here are five signs it’s time to get serious about your next move.

1. You want to refocus your career.

If you’re not happy with your career, don’t be afraid to make a change. It’s never too late to change your career path, as long as you have the means to do so. An MBA degree provides you with the knowledge and skills to refocus your career into any business field of interest to you.

2. You’re ready to take on new challenges and opportunities.

Perhaps you feel like you’ve outgrown your job and you’re ready to advance your career. Many careers require a graduate degree for advancement. An MBA will make you stand out among a field of competitive candidates vying for the same position.

3. You want to make more money.

At most companies, salary raises are sparse. When you’ve reached a point where you don’t foresee much opportunity for salary growth, an MBA can make a huge difference. In fact, MBA graduates earn an average of $27,000 more per year.

4. You want to develop leadership skills.

Leadership skills are necessary to thrive in any business environment, but they aren’t inherent; they must be taught, and an MBA program does just that. After receiving your MBA degree, you’ll be confident in your leadership abilities and feel ready to take on a management role at your workplace.

5. You want a quality education but are hesitant to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and put your personal life on hold.

If you want to receive a high quality, accredited MBA degree for a great price and without any interruption to your work or personal life, an online degree is the way to go. The Georgia WebMBA® offers students the chance to earn an MBA from Georgia College for about $21,000 – thousands less than other MBA programs. Plus, all of your schoolwork is completed online so you’ll never have to make any sacrifices when it comes to your job or friends and family.

Lessons from the World’s Most Successful People

The world’s most successful people didn’t get to where they are on luck alone. They worked hard, took risks, and stayed true to their values. Each one took a different road to get to where they are, but the following ten lessons can be applied to anyone seeking success in their career.

1. They create their own luck. You have the same number of hours in a day as Bill Gates, Marissa Mayer, and Mark Zuckerburg. Don’t wait around for something great to happen to you – make it happen on your own, like they did.
2. They’re not afraid to ask for help. Russell Simmons believes strongly in this principle: “I’ve been blessed to find people who are smarter than I am, and they help me to execute the vision I have.”
3. They take risks. Sheryl Sandberg writes, “Women need to shift from thinking ‘I’m not ready to do that’ to thinking ‘I want to do that and I’ll learn by doing it.'” This principle applies to men, as well. Taking risks is crucial to achieving success.
4. They do what they love. Find something you’re passionate about, and that makes you want to wake up and go to work in the morning. If you dread going to the office each day, you’re not in the right business. Oprah says, “You know you are on the road to success if you would do your job and not be paid for it.”
5. They set huge goals for themselves. Richard Branson says that for people to climb to the top, they have to set seemingly unachievable goals for themselves and rise above them. When you set your goals incredibly high, you’ll work incredibly hard to get there.
6. They understand that it’s not all about money and they don’t lose sight of their morals. Warren Buffett warns, “If you get to my age in life and nobody thinks well of you, I don’t care how big your bank balance is, your life is a disaster.”
7. They stay true to themselves, no matter what anyone else thinks. Take a word of advice from Steve Jobs: “Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”
8. They don’t beat themselves up over mistakes. Richard Branson understands this: “Business opportunities are like buses: there’s always another one coming.”
9. They work incredibly hard. Businessman Mark Cuban cautions, “There are no shortcuts. You have to work hard, and try to put yourself in a position where if luck strikes, you can see the opportunity and take advantage of it…Everyone tells you how they are going to be “special,” but few do the work to get there. Do the work.”
10. They’re good at budgeting. Some successful people are notorious for living large and spending money lavishly, but most are actually very frugal. Warren Buffett is known for flying economy rather than business class, and he works in the same modest office he’s worked in for years. If you learn how to manage your money, you’re more likely to find success in life.
As demonstrated by these various businessmen and women, success comes to those who know what they want, make a commitment to achieve their goals, and always look for new opportunities to succeed.
