Essay

One of the most important parts of the MBA application, the essay is your time to shine! Typically this involves some sort of prompts that you will answer in essay form. Examples of questions include, “what was your biggest failure?” and “how would you describe your past business experience?”. While most applicants find this the most stressful part of the process, it doesn’t have to be. Take a deep breath before starting and know you go this. 
When writing your answers, make sure to include your personality, background, and let your intelligence shine through. Of course, it’s also vital to triple check for any errors. 

Interview

Resume 

Just like with any job application, your resume is an important part of applying for an MBA program! Most MBA programs will want to see scores from the GMAT or the GRE from their applicants. Research which tests the school you’re applying for requires and then make sure you include those results in your application.

While not every program asks for these, some will. Be prepared for your application to require transcripts of classes and grades from your undergraduate program. Similarly, some MBA programs require letters of recommendation. Be thinking about past supervisors, colleagues, or professors that you have a strong relationship with that you could ask to provide this reference.

How the MBA Degree has Changed over the Years

  • The very first business school ever created was in 1881 by the Wharton School in Pennsylvania. However, it didn’t offer any graduate courses. But it was vital in setting up the first MBA that had yet to come.
  • The degree was first called the Master of Science in Commerce degree. The first college to ever offer it was The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
  • However, Harvard was the first educational system to offer what is now known as the MBA in 1908 by creating their Graduate School of Business Administration.
  • Here are some fun facts about this first-ever program for the MBA:
    • The school only had 15 faculty members.
    • A regular class saw 33 students.
    • The first-ever graduating class from this degree was at 47 students.

  • The University of Chicago Booth School of Business first created the EMBA in 1943.
  • In 1950, the MBA traveled out of the United States and into Canada first, then South Africa.
  • It wasn’t until 1957 that the MBA was made available in Europe.

1. Use a professional font and layout
First and foremost, don’t use outlines or fonts that are difficult to read. Stick to classic, simple lettering and make the structure look crisp and clean. Employers won’t take the time to try to decipher a confusing layout or an unclear font.
2. State your objective

8. Keep it concise
